Sunshine Court


Sunshine Court is owned by the David City Housing Authority (DCHA) and operates in conjunction with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). DCHA’s board of five commissioners is appointed by the mayor.

Located in the northwest part of David City, Sunshine Court’s campus features 54 apartments in 15 buildings all of which are non-smoking. There are 46 one-bedroom, seven two-bedroom and one efficiency apartment. All apartments feature private entrances as well as updated tile showers with grab bars. Apartments are furnished with a stove and refrigerator.

On the property are two coin-operated laundries, three conveniently located trash rooms, off street parking, security lighting, security cameras and three outdoor areas for smoking.

Rent is based on a person’s income. Included in the rent are all utilities (except air conditioning), trash removal; lawn maintenance and snow removal. Cable service is $12 a month. Residents can bring their own portable dishwasher or small freezer for an additional fee. Preference is given to those age 62 or older or disabled. Annual income may not exceed levels determined by HUD. Residents are allowed to have a small dog or cat. There is a $200 pet deposit.

Residents, as well as the public, can rent the community room for dinners, business meetings or family gatherings. Located in the main office building, the room features banquet folding tables and chairs; microwave, oven, refrigerator, a television and VHS/DVD player.

Several services are offered in Butler County by agencies that can help residents in various capacities. Offered by Butler County Senior Citizen Center are Busy Wheels-handi van transportation - and home delivered meals. Other organizations offer visiting nurses and other limited medical assistance. Aging Partners assists with a variety of services.
